My name is Deborah Ryman – I am crazy about Santa Cruz County. I grew up on the “other side” of the hill, but vacationed in Capitola as a tot, & as a teen hung out at the beach with friends. After raising my family over the hill, I moved to my idea of paradise. While working on my doctoral dissertation (alas, never finished), I had time to supervise my grandson boogyboarding in Capitola. What could be better than that?
I have always had a keen appreciation for “interesting architecture” & am pleased that many older homes in Santa Cruz have been preserved. I have always been curious about people & places, which inspired me to obtain an advanced degree in psychology & to become a REALTOR. I have also studied Feng Shui, formally.
The idea of “community” fascinates me – particularly the interplay between humans & environment. I am an absolute fiend for local history & love to hear elders tell stories about “the good old days.” I value a “simple life."
I am particularly interested in social & cultural issues. I think of myself as somewhat of an idea purist, as I like to deconstruct status quo notions of things - I am curious about origins of ideas. I also like maps, exploring neighborhoods & back roads & trying to imagine how things looked in the past.
